That's what young kids and teens think about their body at young ages. Society has built this image of a perfect person that represents what girls should look like, and one of the ways boys should appear to look as well. Mainly teen girls are the ones who think that if they stop eating, they don't gain anymore weight, but that's a serious issue. People who choose to starve themselves for a long period of time, are known to have a life threatening psychological disorder known as anorexia nervosa. There’s also other disorders like when people who don't like the way they look, but they can't stand not eating, so they tend to binge eat (eat in great amounts) and then they make themselves throw up the food before it can even enter their body and supply it with nutrition; this disorder is known as bulimia nervosa, and can affect the person's health even more, because when food is thrown up, it also releases some stomach acids through the mouth, damaging the esophagus. These two disorders are some of the largest disorders that people with a negative self image have. Depression and low self esteem are linked to each other. If one doesn't like themselves, they are most likely to develop symptoms of depression, and if one has depression, they will slowly stop liking themselves and begin to dislike themselves. People with depression don't usually seek for help, but they want reassurance about what they dislike about themselves, so they want people to give them negative feedback that will agree with their self concept. The attitude of a person changes when they become depressed. So this is all like a chain; Someone develops an obsession about their image due to their low self esteem because of beauty standards, and then they begin to develop depression, which also carries things like a change in attitude and mood. When someone becomes depressed, people sometimes don't notice as much when it's someone shy and introverted but when someone who’s extroverted and loud, it's much easier to notice, because instead of their normal happy, giddy self, they are, they become sad, quiet, and tend to block people out of their lives. Depression also affects the way they communicate with others in a negative way, because when they tend to respond back to people, they sound rude, or mean because they really don't care about what they think anymore and they let their negative responses affect them later throughout the
