Anne Frank: How People Are Good At Heart

Anne Frank was one of the millions of jews wronged in the Holocaust during World War 2. She went into hiding in 1942, only 13. Anne kept a diary where she wrote about her experiences in hiding. On July 15, 1944 she wrote the following quote. “ It's difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart[...].“ I agree with her claim, that although people may wrong you or hurt you, people are deep down, still good at heart. There are plenty of ways to show you how people are good at heart. A study conducted by students at Yale University attempted to experiment with human morality. The experiment showed that people are born with the knowledge of right and wrong. In the experiment, they performed a short play where babies were shown a puppet who was attempting to climb a mountain and two other puppets either helped or hindered the puppet. Some people will cite Hitler or Osama bin Laden. If people are good at heart, how could they purposely have killed thousands of people? Well, they believed what they were doing was good. Hitler for example, was convinced that jews were the reason for Germany's defeat in World War 2. According to the Anne Frank House, after World War 1 the defeated German republic was in shambles, and Hitler claimed that “Jews were not only responsible for the unfair German defeat but were also blocking Germany’s recovery.“ In Hitler's eyes, he believed what he was doing was good for his country.
