Over many continents and through many time periods animal testing has had a strong presence in science. Many places and companies today have discontinued the use of animals due to its, at times, extremely inhumane practice. Though without the use of animals, many important discoveries, procedures, and vaccines wouldn’t have been found. Animal testing, though some has been found to be cruel, is a helpful tool for future discoveries, and should be continued today because of the usefulness in researching for the safety of humankind.

In article number four it state,”Liberty consists in the freedom to do everything which injures no one else”(Avalon). While in some cases an animal is harmed no other person is injured in the process. This isn’t suggesting that it is okay to harm animals for no reason, but for the sake of science and keeping others safe it may be okay. Within article fourteen it is said that every person has a right to personal or representative decision as to how they publicly contribute (Avalon). Unless the state or country prohibits the act of testing on animals then it becomes a personal decision. There are plenty of brands that do not test their products on animals, but in the end it is up to the consumer what products they buy. Just as it is up to the companies how much testing they think their products need.
Animal testing has made many breakthroughs in science. Including new vaccines, treatments, and overall just ensuring the safety of a product before it is set out for the public. At times the test may not have been able to predict all the possible outcomes of a product or medicine, but not all tests are full proof. People and animals benefit from some of the testing done. We should continue to use animals in testing new products, but we should only use them for test that don’t have a better alternative. Until the day where other types of tests
