Animal Abuse in South Korea
South Korea farmers are brutally murdering dogs and cats for cheap meat. The animals are held in tight, small cages made of chicken wire or thin metal. The cages are suspended a little bit above the ground and are not weather acclimated. Due to the small wire and tight spaces, their paws can become damaged. It is also is difficult for them to stand or move around in these small cages for long periods of time because they are packed so tightly in them. They find many creative and cruel ways to kill the animals. They hang them by their necks and also blowtorch them to remove all their fur and to make their skin a little bit brown and crisp. The cats are placed into sacks and are slung down very hard against the ground until presumed to be dead, but sometimes they are still alive. With cats, they sometimes boil even though they are still alive. The cats are boiled with several other ingredients until it turns into a paste. “The myth is that the more pain suffered by these animals, the more tender and aphrodisiac the meat is.” (Animal Cruelty in Korea). Even young South Koreans want their family members to quit working in the farms. The young South Korean generation does not eat dogs as they do not want to consume their best friends. Local governments are able to inspect the farms and report what they see to the Ministry of Agriculture. “The government has accepted the implementation of a permit system for the animal production industry, but there are concerns that it will not be able to make good use of the law because it did not accept the detailed requirements of the permit system that many petitioners wanted.” (Long Awaited Improvements).
