Anglo Saxon Research Paper

The Anglo-Saxons were people who colonized in Great Britain during AD410 through 1066. The Anglo-Saxons consisted of a mix of three tribes from Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands. These tribes settled in different parts of Britain and were sometimes at war with one another. The main tribes were the Angles, Saxons, and the Jutes. These tribes were mainly composed of farmers, who lived in wooden huts. The area in which they settled was called ‘Angle Land’, or England. The daily life for the Anglo-Saxons may be different from what you had imagined. Kids usually did not attend school, girls would help out in the home and boys learned to take on the role of their fathers. Girls would look after animals, cook and clean, as well as get water from the local stream. Some of the duties of the boys included collecting firewood, and looking after animals. In their free time, boys would play with wooden toys and board games. By the time the children were ten they were looked at as an adult. Also, the Anglo-Saxons enjoyed making things from wood, including their home. They also made jewelry and metalwork. Many Anglo-Saxons were farmers who planted crops such as wheat, oats, and barley. They also raised animals to use as food. For example they raised pig and sheep. Furthermore, they raised oxen and cow which they used to plough their fields. They believed in many gods and had many superstitions. The king of the Anglo-Saxon god was Woden. Some other gods include; Thunor, god of thunder, Frige, goddess of love, and Tiw, god of war. Some of the superstitions the Anglo-Saxons believed in included lucky charms. For example, they believed that rhymes, potions, stones and jewels would protect them from evil spirits or sickness.
