Carlie Fleming Mrs. Stanley English 12 27 October 2016 An Anesthesiologist Anesthesiologists are physicians who administer and determine what type of anesthetic treatment is to be used for the patient prior to surgery, as well as positioning the patient on the operating table in a manner that will be helpful to the surgery. Following strict medical guidelines, the anesthesiologist takes into account the patient’s current health, any medications they are taking, and the type of surgery that is being performed. While the surgery is taking place, the anesthesiologist monitors the patient’s critical life functions to make sure no complications arise. After the surgery is over, the patient’s well-being has to be monitored as the anesthetic wears…
Three hundred sixty five days after November 19th, 2000, a fully grown, peaceful, knowledgeable women, who I love to call my mother, laid out multiple objects on the cold, clean marble floor for me to choose from. The objects laid out on the thick and hard flooring include: a used notebook, a dead battery, a calculator, a stethoscope and a wooden twelve-inch ruler. Out of these objects, I, still just an infant, picked up the stethoscope without realizing. Although my memories of this event are practically non-existent, I remember my caring mother telling me the story of my first birthday and providing pictures of me picking up the stethoscope. Strangely enough, fourteen to fifteen years later, I research careers and colleges which I could possibly…
1. Summarize key milestones involved in the past and present shaping and transitional dynamics behind changes in the present health care industry. Deoxyribonucleic acid also known as DNA is our genetic identification. Once thought by students, as a boring waste of time, has made leaps and bounds in the health care industry. DNA fingerprinting not only proves paternity, but it is also useful for crime scene investigations.…
lowered if you go to college. That's why I want to go to college, and become an NP anesthesiologist. What I have to do in high school is acquire a job, volunteer (mostly in medical areas), acquire work experience, and keep high grades in my classes. For my training I have to become a Nurse Practitioner, and then take a special anesthesiology course (American). The reason why I want this job is because I also will be an NP which are always in demand in hospitals, I would be able to have two careers, I would have great pay and benefits, and I would have the same hours as a surgeon which would allow me to have quite a bit of time off (American).…
Every little detail matters to anesthesiologists; from their patient’s body weight, current medications, any known allergies, pain tolerance, to the completing of a spinal injection. An anesthesiologist is given a barrage of important information each day; so, paying attention and writing down major issues is just part of what they have to do (Novak). The anesthesiologist is in charge of monitoring their patients before, after, and during surgical operations (Greenwood). Many problems can occur during surgery, so it is important to focus on all of the details. An anesthesiologist is not allowed to have a lazy or bad day; one mistake could lead to their patient’s distress or death.…
Education: After completing an undergraduate program and obtaining a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, anesthesiologists must complete four years of medical school, followed by a residency. Dr. Jaen completed one year of transition in internal medicine and three years in anesthesiology at UM Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fl. She finished her residency in 1996. Furthermore, if an anesthesiologist is interested in a specialty field such as pain management or pediatrics, they must further their education and complete a fellowship after their residency program.…
In the Post-Anesthesia care unit (PACU), where I currently practice, nurses and other clinical support staff are confined to work in specific areas. At times, when unforeseen challenges rise, the environment becomes chaotic, disorganized, which due to the stress that this creates, results in conflict among the staff and poor patient care outcomes, such as poor quality of attention and little patient satisfaction. Within the healthcare, in any settings is crucial the use of multidisciplinary teams, working in collaboration to improve clinical outcomes and to improve staff satisfaction. Multiple articles have focused their attention on the significance of staff cross-training and teamwork. For this project, I would like to find evidence, which…
An anesthesiologist is a person who specializes in the pre operative care and the use of anesthesia. This allows them to momentarily dull a patient’s sensation of pain to allow them to undergo typically painful operations. If not for anesthesiologists, people would not be able to undergo many, if not all, surgeries to the high amount of pain the patient suffers. In order to anesthetize a person correctly, one must go through the extensive education mentioned previously. The day to day work and life of anesthesiologists allows for people to live through…
You never know how much you want something until it's almost taken away from you. During my CA-1 year I was involved in an incident where there was a mishandling of narcotics. My residency was on the line, and even after I was cleared of all wrongdoing, I still felt like I had something to prove. I had to show this program and myself that I belonged. Unfortunately, I've been in this situation before, as the underdog, time and time again.…
Anesthesiology is my specialty of choice for residency training and it is clear that it has chosen me as well. During my anesthesia rotations, I realized how much I enjoyed perioperative medicine and bringing comfort to patients undergoing surgery. Implementation of treatment plans that improve the wellbeing of surgery teams and patients is a part of me. This field has a broad scope which offers consistent challenges and intellectual stimulation. Each patient has their own personal needs and present unique challenges, either physically or intellectually.…
I have observed some examples of interventions related to safety in the operating room such as infection prevention, time out procedure and sponge/instrument counts. Infection prevention was the most obvious to me. In the operating room was a specific area only designed for the which was the surgeon, surgical technician, and nurse anesthetist while the surgery was in progress. Each of them were donned in their sterile personal protective equipment with a face shield. All the sterile instruments had already been set up by the surgical technician on a blue sterile field table a few feet away from where the surgery was taking place.…
The Road to Becoming an Anesthesiologist “Many people think all we do is put people to sleep” (Source Schierhorn 1). Time management, organization, and passion are all necessities in order to make it through the many years of schooling. Anesthesiologists are in control of a person 's life during operation. They monitor vitals and record everything that happens as far as heartbeat, breathing, and amount of anesthetics given or used. Anesthesiologists also administer anesthesia before, during and sometimes after procedures to make sure the patient is healthy and does not feel any pain (Career Information Center 1).…
I personally love working with other people, it gives me the opportunity to create meaningful bonds that could possibly last a life-time. You have to be able to understand what a person is going through in their life, especially if he or she has suffered a major injury. Learn to be patient with a person’s recovery, it may take one person longer to recover than another person. Above all, you should respect your patient and actually be there in their time of need. Fortunately, I have all of these characteristics.…
The Mother of Anesthesia As a kid, we grow up idolizing a certain someone due to their influential ways in which they have impacted us individually. In contrary, the idea of an American Icon has its difference, it is now based on how the individual has impacted the nation as a whole, representing an idol for us all in America. They do this by providing us more new aspects to look up to, and symbolizing a substantial effect on our own life for the future. Furthermore, as an American in society, Alice Magaw resembles the ideal image of an American Icon within her ways in nursing.…
= = My coursework has endowed me with a deeper sense of the professional and ethical standards necessary to uphold within a professional healthcare organization. The prime reason for this, after all, is that I, as a healthcare provider, am not only working with people (i.e. healthcare personnel and consumers), but I am serving an often vital role to those in need.…
