Organisational structure is the framework within which managerial and operating tasks are performed. It specifies the relationships between people, work and resources. Organisational structure allows correlation and coordination among human, physical and financial resources and this enables a business enterprise to accomplish desired goals.

They assembles the activities of creating, producing and marketing each product into one department thus dividing its business activities up according to the type of goods or services produced. When activities associated with each product or group of closely related products are combined into relatively autonomous and integrated units within the overall framework of the company, such an organization is described as product departmentation (Bhattacharya, 2009)
For example Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies. Johnson & Johnson has more than 250 companies located in 60 countries around the world. Johnson Family of Companies is organized into several business segments comprised of franchises and therapeutic categories.
Johnson & Johnson company structure is a product departmentalization, comprising of three products, Consumer Healthcare, Medical Devices and Pharmaceuticals.
