Ancient Greece's Ancient Greek Life Today

Do you know of a place that has “beautiful beaches, plentiful sunshine, and breathtaking islands?” (Dubois 42). The answer is Greece; Greece is a very beautiful city located in the continent of Europe. The capital of Greece is Athens, and the 3 biggest cities in Greece today are Athens, Thessaloniki, and Patras. Greece has a very interesting ancient lifestyle, an interesting ancient culture, and an intriguing way of life today. Greece’s ancient lifestyle is very interesting and they used slaves in their lifestyle. “The Greeks saw slavery as part of the natural order of life” (Nardo 37). The slaves were generally treated well but some were treated badly. Some of the most trusted slaves received some small wages. If they got enough money they could but their freedom for their family. They believed that cost was to be paid by sacrifices. They made a lot of sacrifices to these gods, the Greeks offered up things like animals, and food. They made these sacrifices to the gods during religious rituals. “Religious rituals took place at virtually every public gathering” (Nardo 51). Most Greeks recognized and respected all the gods in the ancient times (Nardo). Greece had a lot of popular events in the ancient days. They had religious rituals, as I said earlier, events in the theater, and sporting events. The Greeks loved all sorts of sports and games and had a strong desire to win. Even though all Greeks loved sports, women weren't allowed to compete with men in sporting events. Ball games were very popular in Greece, they played a ball game that is very similar to the modern sport of baseball. Another famous thing in Greece were theaters, and music played during these shows and a lot of dancing occurred when the shows went on
