It was a fascinating competition for people to watch and compete in. The Greek Olympics were known to have begun around 776 B.C. The Ancient Greek Olympics are what inspired modern day Olympic games. The modern day Olympics began around 1896. The Greek Games were held in honor of Zeus, king of the gods, and were started every four years at Olympia. Olympia was a valley near a city called Elis. At first, the Greek Olympics were only a one day event. Then, 668 B.C. they extended it to being three day event. In the 5th century B.C. it was extended to five days for the event. The Greek Games included running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, pankration and equestrian events. In the Greek Olympics, no women were allowed to watch the Greek games and only Greek nationals could participate in the games. People always competed nude. The prize was a crown of olive leaves . The crown of olive leaves was a sign of hope and peace. In the Greek Olympics, a cook named Coroebus won the only event, which was a 192-meter footrace. I chose all of the gods for a very good reason. Not only did they do bad, they both did good in some ways. In this report I wrote about the Trojan War, Mount Olympus, the ancient Olympics, the Greek goddess Nemesis, and the Greek god Hades. This was an incredible time era that inspired our modern day. Greece created a lot of things, especially things that we still use today. I am very happy that we use olympics in modern day. Although, it changed by a lot and we have added a lot more.
