In 1990, the census recorded 6.4% African American, 6.4% Native American, which is up nearly 5 percent from 1970, 4.1 percent Hispanic and 4.8 percent of residents were Asian. They have worked with them sine 1987. This nonprofit that works heavily with the Anchorage government exists to encourage city growth and diversity. They want to make Anchorage more business friendly and make sure that the standard of living there is improving. They receive their money from city and state grants. They are also contracted to perform services. Their vision statement is that by 2025, Anchorage is the #1 city in the United States to live, work, and play in (Anchorage Economic Development, 2015)! Anchorage is becoming a younger city, where new jobs for the younger generation are popping up all the time. During the previous five years, there has been a huge incline in job growth in the city. Over the past five years there has been an additional 7,500 private sector jobs added to the economy. That created record high 155,720 average annual total jobs in 2013 (3-year Outlook, 2015).
In 2014, Anchorage lost 690 jobs, but most of that decline was from job loss in the public sector.
