The Flags of Our Fathers
The Flags of Our Fathers, by James Bradley, is a story of the men that raised the flag on top of Mount Sarubachi during the battle of Iwo Jima. The book talks about the pasts’ of each of the men who raised the flag. It also tells of the story of how one of the most iconic pictures of the war came into being.
The book starts off with the author James Bradley looking into the past of his father. His father served in World War Two and spoke very little about his past experiences in the war. When Bradley discovers a letter from his father to his grandmother talking about raising the flag above Iwo Jima as one of the “happiest times of his life”, Bradley goes into a deeper search of the real story of Iwo Jima by flying to the island with his mother and siblings to learn more about what really happened. …show more content…
