CGC 1D1: Culminating Performance Task - Create Your Own City Evangeline When creating a city, there are two things to consider; liveability and sustainability. Liveability is the characteristics of a community that contribute to the quality of life of its population. Sustainability is the quality of human life that’s possible whilst also living within the carrying capacity (how far the ecosystem can support a population before being damaged) of the environment. Balancing liveability with sustainability can be a difficult task, especially when those who grant you power expect a better quality of life along a smaller ecological footprint.…
Many sociological causes influenced my decision to attend college and more importantly, Clemson University. Factors such as family, class, gender, culture, race and age all played major and minor roles in why I am here today. Ever since I was a child, Clemson always was in the back of my mind as the college I had wanted to attend due to family ties to the University. As I entered my senior year of high school, this played a major role as I only applied to two colleges, Mississippi State University being the other. Upon receiving my acceptance letter to Clemson, the choice was abundantly clear…
Teaching provides one the chance to mentor students in areas outside the scope of a classroom whether through coaching a sport or sponsoring a club. Mostly, teachers have the chance each day to make a lasting impression on someone else. Teachers have the opportunity to be strong, positive influences on 100s of students over the course of a career. Not many professions provide that.” (“Why do I want to teach?”…
The books Your Medical Mind by Drs. Jerome Groopman and Pamela Hartzband and Happiness in a Storm by Dr. Wendy Harpham discuss two different approaches to medical decision making. Medical decisions are not only decisions patients make in life or death situations but also the mundane decisions patients make routinely, such as whether to ingest an allergy pill. In our technologically dependent age, patients face many challenges when attempting to make the best possible medical decision for them. For example, the media, internet, disagreeing experts, and even personal anecdotes we hear influence our decisions by instigating or hindering us from picking a certain plan of treatment.…
Before addressing why Pitt is a good choice for me, I would like to review why I am a good choice for Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh values their “talented, diverse and high achieving students”, their “safe and healthy campuses”, their unique balance of “fun and camaraderie with internships and other learning opportunities outside the classroom”, and their focus on “developing students into global citizens” (University of Pittsburgh webpage, ‘Prospective Students’). I am a well-rounded student who places priority upon academics, as well as a broad array of performing arts extracurricular activities, over 300 hours of community service, several job experiences and religious organizations. Therefore, if admitted to The University of Pittsburgh, I would fit right in with the ardent and accomplished student body, just as I would benefit as a person and as…
Poynette has been an amazing community to grow up in, this is where I learned to help others in a time of need and when not. Another reason my education will help give back to my community is my own influence on the children still growing up in Poynette. What I learn in college, even if it’s simple information about life, I can bring that knowledge back to them. My education will be used to get a major in architecture and interior design, which can help better the communities future.…

My education has been an important aspect of the person which I am. When I was young my family moved a lot, from house to house. The only thing which only stayed constant in my life was where I went to school. I had the chance in switching schools, but all I wanted was somewhere which I can call home, I like going to a place in which I would feel appreciated and invited. I would always see that in the friendly faces of my classmates and faculty.…

Imagine a town that is small enough that people know each other very well, but also is big enough to keep meeting new people. My hometown of Cary, Illinois is a very inviting place where people are friendly to new members of the community and also keep close relationships with community members as well. I believe this small community has allowed me to really be myself and be confident that I will find people and friends who like me for who I am. My hometown of Cary Illinois has a population of about 17,965 as of this year (2017), which may seem very large or very small compared to how some people grew up. To me, however, this size town has allowed me flourish and be confident about myself.…
A community environment serves an important function in shaping our personal development and belief system. The community an individual grows up in says a lot about that individual as a person. With strengths, comes weaknesses and every community differs in many ways. The community I grew up in may differ from the community others lived in, and that’s what makes us all unique and different from one another. No matter if you live on Grand View Drive or you live on the south side of Chicago each community has its different problems, and just because someone may live in a different neighborhood than you doesn’t mean you are complete polar opposites it just means you experience obstacles differently in your daily routine and that is completely…
After completing the decision-making style quiz, I was able to determine my highest style of decision making is an analytical style with my lowest style reflecting a behavioral style of decision-making. I agree with the feedback provided and recognize characteristics of my decision-making style across all styles, however, agree with analytical being my highest and behavioral being my lowest. A characteristic of being analytical is acquiring information by careful analysis and utilizing large amount of data. In my role as a Program Manager and being responsible for producing inventory management to my client, I have to carefully analyze the trends of our product and produce tangible data to our clients to ensure proper purchase orders are placed.…
I have found it humorous how aware I have now become of the various biases that plague my decision-making process. I believe my process to be immune to most biases because of the amount of objective information and conversion of this information into quantitative data for analysis yet after looking closer I see room for improvement. The biases were developed over time and I may have noticed them at random moments in the past but it wasn’t until last week’s discussion and the GlucoGuage simulation that I see my biases for what they are. Most importantly, I am learning to either navigate around them or use them to my advantage given that eliminating some biases can be very difficult especially anchoring bias and confirming evidence bias. When I first went through the simulation I was unaware of the biases I was displaying however after completing the assignment and beginning to write my press release it became clear that I displayed both confirming evidence bias…
At some point in everyone’s life, a person must make a difficult choice. Some decisions may seem simple, but they may actually be life changing. Whether it be to buy a home, a car, or to commit to a marriage. In these situations, a considerable amount of thought is needed to make the best choice. A decision may also include choosing a job that is more beneficial to the individual.…
I make life decisions based on my education. I make major life decisions by basing it of what my education gave me. Like if I went to college and I received my major in teaching then that field is what i know and would like to go to. This is because if I got my teaching degree in math but then I moved to english I wouldn't know what to do and that's why I would base everything on my education. So making my major life decisions is based around…
