Analyzing Avicii's Song 'The Nights'

Decent Essays
In life, we experience many new things, and we learn to make the right choices. We learn to risk things because life is full of danger. “The Nights,” by Avicii is a song that tells you to live a good life because it’s a gift. This song relates to me in many ways, and my motto is “Live life, love life, risk life.” The quote is "Live a life that you will remember." Many others don’t understand what life really means, but this song can be very convincing and can change your mind about everything. The acoustic guitar blends in well with the EDM synthesizer to make a perfect noise. The most important factor of this song is the tune. The tune mixes with the lyrics and creates a story that is told through music.
This song represents me in many ways.

The music changes from low to high notes to create a peak, as the notes also crescendo to indicate that one is proclaiming to the world their connection to their youth and carefree life. By adding emphasis to every word in the main chorus, the words become indisputable and turn into commandments that one is proclaiming. The fluctuation in the singing of “tambourine” mimics the actual sound of a tambourine, adding an aura of music flowing through the room. The grandiose melody is topped off by the powerful vocals to re-energize the listener and allow them to feel just as ecstatic as they were at the beginning of the song. The heart-tugging high notes as the lyrics reach their emotional peak depict the listener letting free all stress and worries and allowing themselves to be consumed by their inner youth.…

Is Kanye West brewing another feud with Taylor Swift? As if his nasty verse about her in his new song "Famous" is not enough, the rapper took another shot at Swift and her win for her "Bad Blood" video, saying that A$AP Rocky deserved the Grammy and not her. This is like a deja vu from VMAs 2009 where West infamously interrupted Swift in the middle of her acceptance speech because he thinks that Beyonce deserved the award more. The 38-year-old recording artist and fashion designer is proving to everyone that he is still not done with his Twitter rants.…

The song also displays the use of “you” which is pushing the listener to go out and do something or trying to persuade them. This makes the song more dramatic and gives very assertive directions for the audience. The music also plays a role in enticing the audience to invest money into Apple Music because the song presents the possibilities that are offered with a subscription to Apple Music: “freedom”. Pathos is exemplified in the scenes of the red-haired boy on the bus and the crying woman against the wall. The red-haired boys’ interpretation of freedom is escaping the reality of life and seeking release from the immaturity of his classmates’ wild youth. Viewers could see the red-haired boy and relate to him through being bullied in school or treated as a social outcast. The young woman crying in a dim room could be in an abusive relationship and escapes the pain through music; she could also be in the stages of a recent breakup and has gained new “freedom” of the single life, despite her shattered soul.…

In the song “The Blacker the Berry” by Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick seems to be showing his anger and frustration towards white people. He also takes a stand protecting his roots because he feels like it’s being taken away from him. Kendrick states some stereotypes that white people have placed on African-Americans and the friendship that the whites and and African-Americans now have. There is a lot emphasis on the fact that even though they are in a free and equal country, equality is still not there.…

Song Analysis Essay: Sleep by Eric Whitacre Eric Whitacre 's famous composition “Sleep” exemplifies a wonderful spin on Robert Frost 's poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” Eric whitacre had originally wrote Robert Frost 's poem to music but couldn 't publish due to copyright claims so in a panic he changed the words in his iconic piece to create “Sleep”. Many artists these days tend to sample other authors work into their songs to add a greater purpose or meaning to their music. Although this technique is not used in a lot of genres and appears mostly in hip-hop music, forms of music sampling have been around since the late 1900’s. Artists like Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar are known for sampling other artist’s music or speeches and incorporating them into their songs to enhance the message or theme that is trying to be presented. Kendrick Lamar uses a sample in his song “Alright” to help illuminate what life is like as an African American and the struggles that they face due to their skin color.…
