Improved Essays
The social worker focused on some of the core issues that are occurring in Renee life. I agree with the social worker PIE assessment, but there were some other factors that the social worker did not address such as: Renee physical environment (her community) and does any of her community environment play a role. Also, the social worker could explore the discrimination that African American face due their race and is there more occurring at school and/ or personal life that is contributing to Rene behavior in school. Also, the social worker could explore the new set of challenges attending the new school has in comparison to her old school, such as educational level and demands are more challenging for Renee and adaptation to a new environment

This class has been a great experience for me and the most important thing that I learned in class came from the young adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood interviews. Linking the interviews with the person I interviewed with the theories related to that age had help me become aware of how I will use these theories in practicing social work in all areas. Now that I am aware of the theories I seek out the person I am working with the past history of their life from childhood to now. Each human experience is different and important to know when working with an individual. For example, in the middle adulthood interview, Shawn had a good relationship with his children that were very important to him.…

The assessment tool helps gather questions about what all is affecting the child inside and outside the school. Doing this can provide a way for school psychologists to gain an understanding of what students are going through. Gathering this type of information during the initial assessment can better the types of interventions a child receives, keeps a healthy and open dynamic between the parents and the school, as well as assures that any assessment will be culturally informed. Furthering this idea it’s important to note the debates on assessments and classifications. Sociological Perspectives in the Work field One position that I have filled in society is being a crew member at a Wendy’s fast food restaurant. I want to show just what functional analysis, symbolic interactionism, and conflict theory are, and how they fit into this role. Functionalism is the idea that every part of something has a purpose. Whether this be society as a whole, a motor to a car, or, in this case, a job, functionalism gives purpose to every individual. Functionalism is important as a fast food employee because it shows how each person must operate properly in their role for the restaurant to run smoothly.…

It is very upsetting to see people taken advantage of because they are in a desperate situation. I am employed by a social services agency and I try to ensure that my clients are not being taken advantage by other agencies, employers, or family members. I feel that a good social worker is always advocating for the best interest and well-being of their clients. If it would not have been for social worker and epidemiologist, Peter Buxtun’s persistence and finally going to the media in 1972, would this still be going on? The concerns that Peter Buxtun raised that the experiment was ethically unjust were ignored for 6 years.…

REVIEW OF ABRAHAM FLEXNER’S ARTICLE “IS SOCIAL WORK A PROFESSION? ” BY ABRAHAM FLEXNER The paper on “ Is social work a profession?” by Abraham Flexner, which was presented at the Forty Second Annual session of The National Conference on Charities and Correction on May 17th, 1915 at Baltimore, Maryland, is said to be an extended argument about whether social work can be considered a profession or not. Flexner shows us a brief picture of how a profession would be, where he brings in a comparison between a professional and an amateur; he portrays the professional as someone whose entire time is devoted to an activity and the latter who is transiently and provisionally so engaged.…
