Analysis: The Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire

The Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire is a self-report measure that has two subscales to evaluate symptom severity (SSS) and functional status (FSS). It is a valid and reliable tool used for patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. The SSS subscale includes 11 items that assess pain, paresthesia, numbness, weakness, nocturnal symptoms, and over-all functional status. The FSS subscale includes 8 items that assess hand function when doing common daily activities. Each of the item is scored on a 5-point scale. The mean scores of the 11 and 8 individual items are computed as the overall score for the SSS and FSS respectively.
