The article, “President Obama directs administration to accept at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next fiscal year,” written by Juliet Eilperin on September 10th, which talks about exactly what the title states. Eilperin argues that this decision made by the Obama Administration was an ill prepared solution to a predictable problem. Because this solution was made up with out proper preparation it comes with some faults that Eilperin and I both agree is not worth it. Another concern made by the American people is the fact that these refugees are coming from a hot bed of terrorist territory. The problem is that the Obama Administration seems to be putting the Syrians best interest over the U.S. citizens best interest, and when the government …show more content…
Plus, since the United States had a lot to do with the civil war that has broke out in Syria it definitely has a responsibility to take some action on the Syrian refugee crisis. The United States has actually been trailing behind in accepting Syrian refugees because of the threat from the middle east. The Syrian refugees will be able to receive Medicaid and then will also be permitted to work. After 5 years of being a refugee in the United States some of the Syrian refugees will even receive citizenship. Another issue that Eilperin has with this decision made by the Obama Administration is that they had a chance to really prepare for this and have a solid plan made for the Syrian refugees, but instead they waited till all eyes were on the U.S. and threw something together. So overall this was just a poorly executed solution made for the Syrian …show more content…
It makes no logical since to me to let 10,000 SYRIAN refugees into our country, when these people are coming from a region where people are known to shout things like, “death to America.” The Obama administration is making a very poor decision here that is putting every U.S. citizen at risk by bringing in potential terrorists into America. This is a decision that makes zero logical sense, because there are already other countries letting Syrian refugees into their country. So why should the U.S. let refugees when it is not absolutely necessary when they already have somewhere else that they can have refuge? This just seems like the Obama Administration is making a very ignorant decision. Then the Obama Administration is going to give these refugees Medicaid? The problem that I have with giving them Medicaid is that is tax money that I highly doubt the United States citizens want their tax money being given to provide for the Syrian refugees. This tax money could be going to programs that would actually benefit the United States society and their citizens with programs like education, or to FEMA because a type 4 hurricane is about to hit the U.S. coast. I am fine with the work permit as long as it is jobs that is

Under president Obama, there will be more refugees coming into our country, and people are going to have to deal with the fact that it is the right thing to do. Many Syrians are in need of refuge and haven. Many neighboring countries have already done their part by taking in tens of thousands of the refugees. The U.S. only taking in 0.03% of the 11 million, it is only fair for the States to accept a lot more than just 1,000 more. The Jews tried to escape before anything happened and the U.S wouldn’t allow it. The U.S is doing the same thing with the Syrian refugees. They don’t want any of them here because they think something will happen. I think if they bring them over here they will save more lives because right now they are damaging 12 million people, that is more lives affected than Hurricane Katrina, Haiti, and the Indian Ocean tsunami combined, lives right now and a lot of those are children. The children don’t have the fault for anything.…

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that nearly 4.8 million Syrian civilians have fled their homes to neighboring countries and abroad, while approximately 8.7 are predicted to be displaced within Syrian borders (UNHCR, 2016). While this may arguably be the biggest refugee crisis of our time (United Nations, 2016), the world’s wealthiest countries are slow to accept refugees into their borders. While some countries are unwilling to accept any refugees at all, some such as the United States are welcoming them in smaller…

In discussions of immigration within the United States, one controversial issue has been whether the U.S. Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act is effective. The SAFE Act is an American legislation requiring Syrian and Iraqi immigrants to subject to more background checks than other immigrants. On one hand, author Jamil Dakwar of Not So Safe And Sound claims the SAFE Act is targeting refugees from Syria and Iraqi directly and "violates several fundamental human rights laws and principles" (Dakwar 49).…

Did you know, since the year 2011 over 250,000 people have died in Syria due to the extremely dangerous conditions of the country? Americans should open their arms to these refugees and let them into our country. These people offer no threat to us, by turning them away, were encouraging the act of terrorism and it goes against our beliefs as Americans. One reason the people should let refugees in the country is that these people offer no harm to the citizens of America. There are a lot of people fleeing from their country because of the living conditions and how unsafe their home is.…

government had accepted about 1,500 Syrian refugees. The U.S. government has its reasons to why they are not allowing the refugees to stay and to come seek refuge here in America and they are reasonable. One major reason why we are not allowing them in the U.S. is because our government fears that it will threaten our security. Which makes a lot of sense because we don’t know who exactly these people are, whether or not if they are affiliated with a terrorist group, or if they are just regular people of Syria. It’s tough to come to a conclusion.…

Americans are a compassionate God fearing people who believe in God’s commandment to love our neighbors and care for our fellowman. However, our government’s inability to effectively handle the ISIS crisis has paralyzed our compassion and hardened our hearts for fear of becoming their next victims. The terrorist have accomplished their goal of striking fear into the heart of America. As a result, we are poised to close our doors to Syrian refugees as we did in 1939 to Jewish refugees on board the SS St. Louis seeking asylum from the Nazi murderers.…

Across the United States there is an insurmountable amount of discord amongst the states and their Governors and their positions on whether to open their doors to Syrian refugees. The United States is already a country that was conquered by immigrants (the Spanish, the French and the English), one would assume that there would be at least some level of empathy for suffering citizens of a country where they are under constant political and religious persecution. However this is not the case in 30 out of 50 states in the US, each Governor of the aforementioned states having their own reasoning as to why; politics having its almost unavoidable tendency of being controlled by popularity, politicians most of the time can do nothing more than to…

The fact of it is that we might bring over all these refugees and so much money is used, and they only see fractions of the resources, just enough to non-essentially keep them alive. In 1991 the clinton administration offered an escape or asylum to the bantu somalis that were stuck in the middle of a civil war. The United States was going to start bringing thousands of refugees to american soil. By mid 2001 the united States and were ready to start bringing them to America.…

“From 1990 to 1995, an average of about 112,000 refugees arrived in the U.S. each year, with many coming from the former Soviet Union. However, refugee admissions dropped off to fewer than 27,000 in 2002 following the terrorist attacks in 2001.” (Krogstad) The U.S. didn’t want to let in nearly the amount refugees that they used to let in due to fear of what could happen if they let someone in that could harm other people. America should keep letting refugees in because they can give America an economic boost.…

Aziz Huq in his essay “America’s Refugee Debt” brings to light that the United States is required, as a country that has been involved with the Syrian conflict, to show “minimal humanitarian morality” to help ease the crisis (3). In other words what needs to be done to aid Syria, should be done, to the extent that it is not detrimental to the individual or country. Huq suggests that this requirement may have been filled by the United States giving four and a half billion dollars to help aid refugees and resettlement (3). Four and a half billion may not go as far as some may think though. Huq states that refugee camps are overcrowded with more than four million externally displaced persons and this does not factor in the nearly eight million people without a place to live within Syria (2).…

Our United States has an open door immigration policy. The United States is open to letting anyone come inside this country with adequate screening, especially if they represent a danger. These Syrians by the facts stated earlier are obviously in a time of great trouble and sadness which should make us open to inviting them here. This policy is something our foundation was founded on and we should keep that in mind and stay true to ourselves. Furthermore there are always jobs that need to be done that many not want to do.…

America cannot continue to say “us” and “them” because we are all one species sharing a planet. We must help the Syrian refugees out of the human compassion that everyone has. The opposing views of this issue must be able to agree that we must at least aid the refugees still overseas. The United States has already taken in 1,500 refugees and gradual increase in the amount of refugees resettled to the States would please both sides of the conflict. Gradual resettlement would begin with the states willing to take in refugees and then eventually, the rest of the states, as the states do not have actual control over a foreign affairs issue.…
