The author shows credibility by exposing the cruel reality of the sexual abused that she suffered for two years. For example, Theresa expressed that one day she was left naked and unconscious at a motel after she was brutally raped by many men. She also describes in details how someday she was strong enough to ask for the pictures, but she only received physical and verbal maltreatment from the traffickers. Theresa showed that her story is the definition of sex trafficking and it happened in the United States where we live. The abusers used force, coercion (threats) and fraud (lies) to control her freedom and rights. She was a sexual object beyond any person’s comprehension. She first pointed out that the Department of Justice “estimated that 14,500-17,000 victims of human trafficking are brought into the United States each year” (Flores, 2010). Flores used this statistic to show her readers that human trafficking can happens around us. Then, Theresa offered suggestions on how parents can be involved in the lives of their children by spending time them and asking question so that they can prevent that their children from becoming victims of human trafficking. She explained that traffickers take advantages of people’s weakness especially of children. Therefore, she indicated that everyone should “look deep within the child’s soul” and “listen for the child’s silent cry” when children’s attitude changes suddenly (Flores, 2010). Additionally, Theresa shared signs of human trafficking that parent should watch in their children which includes sadness, fear, personality change, and insecurity. By describing how parents can protect their children, she educates and makes understand parents and readers that human trafficking is real and happens in the United
