1. I thought the reading by Walker-Bynum was very interesting. I have never thought of the idea that Christ could be seen as female. I learned a lot of reasons as to why people thought they saw the body of Christ as female. It surprised me that people thought it because most people always see Christ as a man just because men seem to have more power and a bigger part in history in general. The only question I have about this article is if anyone thinks that way today, because I had never heard of this idea before.

One of the first points Walker-Bynum points out is that depictions suggest that Christ’s flesh was sometimes seen as female, as lactating and giving birth. The reading also tried to prove it by explaining how teachers and authorities should be nurturing: therefore, church and church leaders, and church’s head himself were mothers. It’s important because this is one of the points made that show that Christ being seen as female is mainly making a connection that he was nurturing which is often seen as a trait from a woman. The author also mentions how Christ can be views as a female because of how he bled on the cross. People in the past related bleeding with being a woman and he bled a lot on the cross and women were there with him. From this we can learn more about how people thought based on the art, nowadays people don’t examine the artwork from the past and make connections like the reading did. I also think we can learn that this reading made it a positive thing that Christ could be viewed as female, Christ is main part of a lot of religions giving a female part within Christ would be a could thing for
