Only the canonical Gospels in the New Testament date from the first century, while thirty so called “gospels” were written at least 100 years after Jesus came to earth. The church has known from the earliest days which books are God’s words and the Scriptures command us not to add to them. We also know that the Scriptures do not contain errors and/or contradictions. We can be positive in this belief because God does not lie in anyway and since the Scriptures are God’s Word, they cannot speak falsely
