It will be held in the Colony Ballroom since that hosts 700 people, and we expect 500 students to be in attendance. When you first walk into the event there will be booths set up. These booths will include: University of Maryland Health Center, Campus Advocates Respond and React, University of Maryland Counseling Center, the Office of Human Relations, Tittle IX Office, Sexual Assault Center of Prince George’s Hospital, and the Maryland Rape Crisis Center. Essentially, all on-campus and off-campus resources will have a booth. Each booth will have one or two people to talk to the students and they will also have health education materials that the students can take with them. As a student makes there way more into the room there will be chairs set up in front of the stage. This is where students will listen to the guest speakers. We will have to guest speakers. First, I will be working with CARE and they have access to the statistics of sexual assault. I will first examine the prevalence of sexual assault prior to the event and then I will continue to monitor periodically for 6 months to see a change. If the program is successful then I would expect to first see an increase in the rates of sexual assault. This is because the event will create a supporting environment on campus that students may feel comfortable to now come forward about their incident. However, later the rates should decrease. Our main goal is education and awareness; the program will measure this through a survey. Before coming to any of the events students will be required to fill out a survey on sexual assault. This survey will include sample questions like:
1. Most acts of sexual abuse or sexual assault involve weapons. True or False2
2. People who are drunk or high are not responsible for their actions. True or False?
3. Victims of sexual assault are chosen because they are pretty, young or sexy. True or False?
4. People victimized by sexual assault or abuse sometimes “ask for it” by their provocative behaviors. True or False?
5. A woman cannot be sexually assaulted by her boyfriend. True or False?
After each event is over, we will ask the students to take the survey again and then compare the results to track if students have really been educated by the campaign. By evaluating the event, if proven to
