In the Still-Life on the Counter Armstrong conveys that the still life on the counter alternately resides with the public instead of the public sphere of consumption. She contends that the bottles of liquor and fruit are saleable items for, “public consumption,” (Armstrong, in Collins, page 27). A classification that she stamps an issue of commodities and consumptions. She also contends that the labels on the bottles present as advertisements that exist thanks to mass-production (Armstrong, in Collins, page 27). These same similarities can also be seen in the items on the Bar like the Lemon and Asparagus. She claims that asparagus even going to be consumed, but rather the painting of the asparagus is the object of consumption, and only visually.
