Robert Marzano's Nine Strategies Analysis

Marzano’s Classroom Strategies are nine strategies that Robert Marzano created and recommends the use of these strategies for high student achievement. Of those nine strategies I chose two of these strategies that I enjoy and have seen be successful in the classroom, which are identifying similarities and differences and homework and practice. I chose to discuss this topic because of the success I have seen as a result of these strategies in the classroom.
Identifying similarities and differences is when the students compare and contrast the topic they are covering. Different ways this strategy can be used is through a Venn diagram, cause and effect graphic organizer, analogies, t-charts, and Frayer model. Through this strategy students can better understand the concept and better ability to use knowledge. An example of how I have seen this strategy used was through the use of a t-chart, when

Often the teachers may be a general education teacher and the other a special education teacher. There are six approaches to co-teaching. They are as follows: one teach/ one observe, one teach/ one assist, station teaching, parallel teaching, alternative teaching, and team teaching. I chose to discuss this topic because it is important to remember these approaches to co-teaching because of the possibility of experiencing co-teaching in my future career. Co-teaching helps assist classroom instruction because by knowing each approach, you can better choose which approach will best suit the content and the students. By being familiar with the approaches, you can differ the classroom instruction styles. I learned co-teaching occurs for the benefit of the students and having two teachers aids in supporting all the students’ needs. Also the different approaches are created to use both teachers in a beneficial way and so the special education teacher is not seen as a parapro or helper and not a

Comparing and contrasting is a way to comprehend information. When comparing examples of information, you can make connections between multiple things, whether it’s in text, real life, or something that you’ve learned. For example, “The Lottery”, by Shirley Jackson and “First They Came”, by Martin Niemoller have a lot of things in common but they have a whole different plot. Certainly, “The Lottery” is about following a crowd for example “The Lottery” is about a small country town pursuing a tradition. In the Power of Two video by Marilyn Friend (2005) introduces the six approaches of co-teaching as classroom practices. One approach is when one teacher teaches while the other teacher observes, this approach is more data driven. Meaning the teacher that is observing, they can watch the students and the instructional teacher as well. A goal of this approach may be for the observing teaching to provide professional criticism or they may have a different over view of the students and spot those that are not understanding the lesson. According to Cook (2004) this approach would be used in the classroom when co-teaching is new to the classroom or when there is a certain student the teachers want to make more detailed observations.…

I have witnessed two parents’ interactions with special education educators during my fieldwork experience. Both of these experiences could have been approached better using cultural reciprocity to ensure that the teachers understand the parents’ point of view and to take it into consideration. The observations were conducted in an Integrated Co-teaching (ICT) classroom in the second grade. I have witnessed an interaction between a parent and the special education teacher.…

Personal Philosophy I believe that all children are unique and bring their own knowledge and experiences to any educational environment. I believe the early childhood environment is a place for children to be free agents to; develop, learn, grow and express themselves, while having the confidence and respect they as a person are entitled to. Furthermore I also belie that all children have the right to learn and their learning be abundant with experiences, knowledge and quality, as well as feeling a sense of belonging to their community and learning environment. These beliefs are important to my teaching and my philosophy of early childhood eduction.…

Within my English co-taught classroom, I differentiate through 5 different ways. One differentiation I do is placed the students based on reading levels. I have done Fountas and Pinnell running records in order to place my students in groups. This is important because during stations groups the students are placed with their groups (What is Benchmark Assessment System (BAS) and how is BAS used?). The article that I read was about team teaching in early childhood interdisciplinary program: A decade of Lessons Learned. In this article, the authors discuss co- teaching strategies that are making their way into classrooms. One of the examples the authors gave was a preschool classroom being co-taught by a faculty in early childhood education and a faculty in early childhood special education, which is significant for the Early Childhood field and which provides are critical mark for integrating both the general and special education practices in the same classroom. Before taking this course and being out in the field for 20 hours, special education was not my ideal teaching job. Special education was always intimidating to me because there is so much important information that is needed. IEP’s, parents, and goal setting are just a few to name that intimidated me until now. After getting to experience being in a special education room with the students and asking Nicole Degroot questions about these topics, I now I feel that special education may be the positon for me. From the first day of my observation hours, Mrs. Degroot made me feel completely welcome and comfortable, which made the experience that much better.…
