Once Upon Of Time By Nadine Gordimer Analysis

In the short story, Once Upon Of Time by Nadine Gordimer we can see the author uses the six main principles of a theme. We can see how this story starts with a one main idea and then keeps going with another story stating the same idea of the first one. This short story has many important points we can see as a the main idea of the story. I believe the theme of this story is fear, danger, and over protection. First of all, I believe this short story theme is about fear because we can see how it starts with noises going around the house we can see the character is afraid. We can see the character starts to tell a story so she can't be afraid. For example, how the author states, “I listened. I felt the apertures of my ears distend with concentration. In the second story it was showing too much protection for the little boy because they didn't want anything to happen to him they wanted to protect him from the danger. They overprotected him though they even used his cat. For example, when it states in the story, “...from that day on the cat slept in the little boy’s bed and kept to the garden never risking a try at breaching security.”(235) Thats what they wanted for their little boy to be secured so did the character from the beginning from the first story she wanted to be protected and be secured from what she was hearing. Even though the parents used all the protection on their little boy it didn't help. As it states the story, “...the alarm setup wailing against the screams while the bleeding mass of the little boy was hacked out of the security coil saws…”(236) This relates with the protagonist of the story the one telling the second story she was reading so she can be distracted to what was happening around her, but as well as the little boy it didn't help them to be
