HONESTY AND RELATIONSHIPS
Being honest in life can lead you towards a lot of success in your relationships. How though does being brutally honest lead to better relationships? In the book, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, the friendships between Greg, Earl, and Rachel strengthen because they allow each other to be open and truthful with one another. Being honest about one’s personality traits helps others to know exactly a person’s true character. Honesty also helps one to know the true feelings of another. Relationships only get stronger when one feels comfortable saying honest things even if they know it may hurt another’s feelings. A strong relationship is one that is built only on honesty, trust and a willingness to be open with one another.

Being honest about one’s personality traits helps others to know exactly a person’s true character. Greg demonstrated this by being honest with Rachel, even if though it was a time when he should have been lying. While Greg was talking to Rachel in the hospital, he said: “I’m not cheering you up at all when I come here, I’m being a jacka*s”. This example shows how Greg’s truthfulness may not have necessarily been the kindest, but it was good for him to tell Rachel the truth so she understood that his emotions weren’t

This is true of all friendships. When one is honest about who one is, then the people who they are friends with accepting them for who he or she is. Voicing one’s true feelings allows others to know exactly how one feels, which leads to an open relationship and not one that people have to guess or assume how the other feels. One must also risk hurting feelings to be completely honest with another. By risking this, a relationship can strengthen as a person can learn from this honesty. It is only in the honesty we bring to a friendship that a relationship can truly get
