At the house, the barrio lieutenant was with two women and then the priest arrived shouting fearful and harsh words. Because of his anger, he shot the barrio lieutenant with the use of revolver. Unbelievably, the barrio lieutenant thought he would be killed but suddenly, he grabbed the revolver with the help of his family to tie and stop the cruel father. Because of the injustice, the barrio lieutenant’s relatives were arrested. The priest silently went back to convent, his home. It was stated there, “But then, seemingly unable to contain his anger or cruelty, he shot at the barrio lieutenant with the revolver he had been carrying in his hand.” Without the social issues, the story is like a body without a skeletal system for it cannot stand alone. The author cannot address the text to the readers without the existence of the social issues. The social issues that are involved are injustice, discrimination, murder and adultery. The priest tried to kill the barrio lieutenant that is why he attempted to murder because of what he did, but it was stopped by the family of the lieutenant. It was serve as an injustice because of the wrong accusation to the innocent people like the barrio lieutenant. The relatives of the barrio lieutenant were arrested and the priest just went home. Murder is one of the social issues in the text because the priest shot the barrio lieutenant with his revolver. Discrimination was also involved because the people in their place trued to be on the side of the cruel priest rather than to those innocent people. Priests are powerful like the government maybe that is why there was discrimination. The last social issue involved in the story is adultery because the priest had a mistress in the story wherein the priest cannot have a mistress or wife, they should only serve God. Killings were rampant at that time. The innocent Filipinos had been killed and they had been attempted to be killed by the Spaniards. There is also a discrimination among Spaniards and Filipinos. They treated the Filipinos as the lower class of society. It includes also the injustices among Filipinos in the aspect of wrong accusations. The justice at that time is served only to those who had an authority, money, and power. Money was so powerful that can cover the truth behind everything. Just like the priest in the text, he had his power to influence the authorities. The authorities trusted his wrong accusations to the barrio lieutenant. Also, adultery is included between the priest and barrio lieutenant’s wife. According to sixth commandment of God, “You shall not commit adultery.” But the priest and the mistress still committed it which is a sin. Adultery is the root of these social issues in the text. Without this issue, there will be nmao attempted murder, wrong accusations and injustice. When we love, we also love God. The priest in the text should be the role model and instrument to have a strong relationship in the sacrament of marriage. But in the text, he was the one who broke the relationship of barrio lieutenant and his wife. In the present, these social issues that had been raised are still happening in our country. This

She went through a lot of pain as her ex husband Memo didn’t seem to care about Caridad’s pregnancies since it was implied that she didn’t want to be a single mom. Caridad was rejected by her own community because of her one night stands with strangers because in this society, it was a male-dominated society where women weren’t supposed to have one night stands, rather “females were expected to have only one sexual partner, none before or outside of marriage” (Machismo Sexual Identity). La Malinche went from being interpreted as a chingada to a chingona (a badass). The historical interpretation of Maliche as a weak and fatal historical figure is an example of a patriarchal (machista) way of interpreting history, due to the fact that patriarchy is ingrained in the Chicana/o culture. In opposition to the patriarchy, contemporary Chicana/o authors like Lucha Corpi and Michael Nava through their work challenge it and offer a reinterpretation of previously neglected or misinterpreted historical figures. With Gloria’s transgression into traditional masculine spaces as a Chicana detective and the reinterpretation of La Malinche, Corpi in Black Widow’s Wardrobe does justice to Malinche for the agency which she was deprived off by…

Furthermore, the heavy use of Spanish throughout her poem helps express the immigrant worker’s feelings of desperation and helplessness. The fear they live in by not understanding not one, if not all, words coming from “el Sonavabitche”, but only comprehending his actions and tone of voice towards them. The fear of hearing someone scream out “corran muchachos” (124), while hearing gun shots go off and knowing that “el Sonavabitche” ratted them out to “la migra” (126) for his own gain. Additionally, the works strong imagery and use of Spanish allows for the reader to picture the harsh and unfair conditions that the people who journeyed to America in hopes of finding a brighter future for themselves and for their families, had to endure. Many had to endure long drives with “no food they pissed into their shoes…sabe Dios where they shit” (Anzaldua).…

While Gonzalez takes a more individual approach to analyzing the truth behind Malinche, Romero compares her to La Virgen de Guadalupe. Both of these writers take an approach that sees Malinche as someone who got the short end of the stick. In Gonzalez’s essay, “Malinche Triangulated, Historically Speaking,” she argues that the popular portrayal of Malinche is completely imagined in that she is unreal, much like the Disney Pocahontas movie where very little is based on the reality.…
