The basic idea of this book is that we need each other. Bonhoeffer wants us to be reminded that God loves all of us and desires for us to be in community with each other. Bonhoeffer uses the illustration of the body to further emphasize the importance of unity. Humankind's response is to either build community or break it apart. The only expectations we should depend on are the expectations in which God has of us. This book reminds us of the importance of seeking the types of relationships in which Jesus called us to as opposed to the ones we desire for ourselves. This book would be helpful by showing what Christian community is meant to be versus what we have made it. Bonhoeffer calls us to get rid of our dreams of community and focus on the community God has given us. Also, this type of community would be appealing to many people who are looking for a sense of belonging. There are various questions in which this book brings forth. The main question that comes to mind is whether or not the community of life in which Bonhoeffer is persuading us to immolate is indeed obtainable. Due to this very high expectation, we have something to strive for that only God can enable us to accomplish. Thanks to Life Together, we can be encouraged by the fact that we are not alone in this goal. Another question this book brings forth is whether or not this type of community can be immolated across various congregations and denominations. I believe it can be done because of God working through us, but we must first allow him to do the work. For that reason, I find this community very hard to
