Kings Trail Elementary Professional Development School demographics are that approximately 38.3% of students identify as African-American, which creates the largest segment of the student body and is expected in many schools in Jacksonville where 41.7% of student population is African American (Kings Trail Elementary School). In addition, 27.9% of students identify as Hispanic, while, 20.7% identify as White and 9.2% identify as Asian (Kings Trail Elementary School). Lastly, 3.5% identify with two races and 0.2% identify as American Indian and Pacific Islander (Kings Trail Elementary School). Next, the gender distribution is approximately equal. In Kings Trail Elementary School, 52% of students are male, while, 48% of students are female (Kings …show more content…
Approximately, 25% of students have limited English proficiency, which is much higher than the median elementary schools in Florida, which is 10% (Kings Trail Elementary School). Lastly, the location of Kings Trail Elementary School is in San Jose, which is characterized as low income, moderately education and mainly young professionals age twenty-five to thirty-four.

Spanish was spoken regularly in class; in fact, one of the teachers would give her instructions in English and then again in Spanish, due to the fact that English was a second language for many students. In fact, there is an only English as a second language (ESL) an class where the majority of the students only speak Spanish or only know a little English. Therefore, by speaking Spanish to her students, she is able to reach more of her student. I think that it is excellent that the teacher incorporate Spanish into her lessons and when she would gave directions. For example, the homework would be in English and if any student was not quite understand she would read it to them in Spanish. They would also ask question in Spanish and at times the teacher would answer in Spanish, other time she would answer in English. However, I

First, I discuss the classrooms, then the staff, and lastly, the library. I was given the opportunity to observe in three different classrooms. The first classroom was the teacher I was assigned to, her classroom was set up in a good way. Her classroom was full of poster boards with math rules, there were ninja turtles hanging on the ceiling to denote tables (orange ninja turtle was Michelangelo table). Above the white board, she had pictures of test tubes, scientific method, the moon and about Florida. She had charts, which allowed the students to see where they were and how they compared to their friends. The next classroom I observed was the ELA teacher. Her classroom had round tables which seemed to work perfectly during centers. In addition, her classroom was full of English and Language art posters (long vowels, short vowels, prefix, root words, suffix, noun, verb, etc…). She also had a chart for her student’s iReady scores that she called the Super Student Calendar. The last classroom was arrange that the desks were in four sideway “L” fashion. Next, I observed the staff and what position they held. Most of the teacher I saw in the hallways were female; however, there was a few male teachers. Kings Trail Elementary staff is made up of a variety of races.
