Raven starts off the piece by stating that a group of young men winning $10.9 million dollars by playing a video game, Dota 2, this starts off with good introduction into what he is going to be discussing in his work. He then starts to talk about video gaming competitions and how they bring attention to professional gaming. He also states that video gaming that can turn into being a profession. He described what crowdfunding was and how it worked. Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people. In his work the competitions were funded by the players of Dota 2 whenever they made an in game purchase such as emoticons. He sees this as a win-win situation because the players get in game items as well as contributing towards the competition and the company gets a cut from the purchases.
