Leeza states “He made me remember something i’d forgotten… that i could be strong too.” (Aker 214) This displays that Reef wanted to help Leeza get better so he tried his best to motivate her. He voluntarily convinced Leeza to stop staying in her room all day at North Hills, rather go to the 8th floor which is her therapy floor and will help her learn to walk again. This is not only benefiting Leeza it is helping out her mom and stepdad by not having to go to North Hills everyday. Another reason, as for change by progression proven by Reef is “She did something to me made me want to be better, better than what i was before at least” (Aker #). This shows that Reef wanted to change so he could improve his life and others, he would be helping himself by proving that he is not just a tough guy anymore, he is stronger mentally. As mentioned, adolescents change with the right help and a positive environment, having the urge to rid the burden they have put on others and most importantly wanting to improve their own and others lives.
