David Pogue posted an article on The New York Times called “Photoshop and Photography: When is it real?” He asked a very simple but also very complicated question, “What is a photograph?” after seeing the magazine’s annual Reader’s Photo Contest. One of winner photos shows a motorcyclist being chased by a tornado; another shows a flock of seagulls wheeling around a lighthouse in amazingly photogenic formation. Neither scene ever actually existed as photographed. When people can combine pictures or move things around in Photoshop, and those processed pictures won the photography competition, what is a photograph for real?
