The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time is a book about a 15-year-old autistic boy named Christopher. His neighbor’s dog is mysteriously murdered with a garden fork and Christopher decides to investigate this oddity, and along the way, discoveries many other things about his life as well, including that his mother is actually alive and that his father had lied that she was dead because he was embarrassed that she left him for another man, his mother had been sending him letters which his dad had been keeping, and also that it was his own father that had murdered the neighbor’s dog. The book has a great plot, good writing quality, and no sexual content, but it does have some unnerving scenes and explicit language. I think the book should be banned from elementary to middle school settings due to the amount of language in the book and also because I feel that there are many sensitive and/or complex subjects in the story that could be confusing or disturbing to a child who is elementary/middle school age. However, I also think that the book should not be banned from high schools because I believe that it also is very eye-opening and could teach students very important lessons.

For example, in the beginning of the book there is explicit imagery describing the murdered dog in the middle of a lawn, stabbed with a garden fork. This, could obviously, come as disturbing to a younger child. I know, I as a kid, would have been distraught if I had read that scene in kindergarten. However, I think that now, as a high schooler, it was not at all concerning for me reading that. I think that when children are given time to be able to mature a little bit, they are more able to handle such
