Negative articles like this one seem to flood the media, attempting to open reader’s eyes to the horrors millions experience on the other side of the world. Daily articles record the devastation humans have wreaked upon the environment and on others’ lives. While individuals are ridiculed for their bodies, their personalities, their dreams, and their values, the media promotes campaigns with slogans like, “love yourself!” To anyone observing these mixed messages, society’s reputation may come across as disingenuous. Though Cervantes dubs Don Quixote’s perspective, “insanity,” many readers may describe it as, “rose-colored glasses,” and must question the root of his madness. In the book, he read too many books and lost his mind, but to an extent, the ludicrous hero refuses to see the world in its broken state. He faced ridicule and insult to carry out his calling and to live what he believed. Lovable and goofy, he saw the world from a rare perspective-one that refused to see the realistic world full of destruction and darkness. Unifying people from all walks of life, Don Quixote’s insanity served an important role in inspiring his every move and teaching others to view the world with a unique outlook. Never one to back down from a challenge Don Quixote did not feet fear in the face of an adversary, and in the same way individuals should not back down from societal pressures to assimilate.
