“Carly the Cranky Cat’s closet was cluttered with coconuts, crabs, and cauliflower, and Bart the Blue Baboon’s was bestrewn with broken balloons, bubble-gum, and brunch from the beach,” I read aloud to my class. I was in 5th grade and had Mr. Calvaresi. This was the kind of odd creativity he encouraged and allowed us to have when doing our spelling homework. He told us to make our sentences as creative as possible. He definitely helped influence me to be a more creative and expressive writer. This all started at the beginning of fifth grade when we were first assigned to write three excellent sentences using our spelling words. I started out not really caring about the sentences and added details, but not much creativity. Instead of just saying dog, I would put big, brown dog. As the year progresses, my sentences, as well as my friends’, got more creative and elaborate. “Mr. C? Can we write paragraphs and stories instead of sentences for our spelling homework tonight if we want to?” I asked my teacher, as he wrote the …show more content…
Calvaresi always made it so enjoyable. He would turn it into competitions and games and he always let us be as creative as we wanted in our writing. Because of this, Sarah and I ended up writing a mini-series about how two of our close friends and us were quadruplets, how none of us ever got along, and the awesome adventures we would go on together. Sarah and my ongoing feud to have the best story ended then and we combined our power to make one extraordinary series. We also ended up being on the same team and working together to get points towards our pizza party. Mr. Calvaresi always told us to be creative with our writing and he challenged me to go further with my creativity by letting me write stories instead of sentences for our homework. From this, I learned to express my creativity through my writing and to write as creatively and detailed as possible to make your writing more
