In first video , the Reed’s parents, Bruce Goldstein the Director of Special Education, Susan Gribebler a first grade teacher at Jones elementary, and Virginia Stern a speech and language pathologist at Kennedy School where conducting an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for Reed educational needs by considering his least restricted environment level. During the IEP meeting the parents and school officials were not able to accurately communicate with one another about Reed’s educational needs. The parents had strong views of what they consider were in the best interest of Reed, for instance, the parents wanted Reed to receive 3 speech sessions a week, socialization skills and his development at Kennedy School versus Jones Elementary School. …show more content…
Reed’s parent in the first video already had a close mind in what they wanted for their child which impact the conversation in the IEP meeting. As parents are the key point on implementing an IEP, the school officials were not willing to consider their concerns by over talking they believe is best for Reed’s least restricted environment level. For instance, in the first video, the parents stated they did not have a chance to travel to Kennedy School as it was out of their distance. This comment provided the school official knowledge the parents did not want to consider the school for their child and believe they only want to the Jones Elementary School for their child’s educational development. While observing the second video, Reed’s parents provided details of them researching Kennedy School and their unwillingness of visiting the school due to illness of Reed, rather than the travel. In addition, the parents provided the school official with questions to help them understand the outcome of Reed’s educational process along with state their concerns of the positive and negative outcome of both Jones Elementary school and Kennedy
