Type of poem: The type of this poem is a lyrical poem because the poem itself talks about the speaker’s feelings throughout and talks about the issues such as finding strength after something bad happens, race and ending sexism.

Tone of poem: While reading this poem there were many emotions I was feeling such as being confident in yourself, having a positive self-esteem about everything that happens. In my opinion, the mood of the poem was deep because the poet used many poetic devices to convey her message to the audience. This poem had the feeling of hopeful since the entire message of the poem is to never give up on yourself and always trust yourself no matter what happens.

In my opinion, I start to think about how being confident can lead you to many more opportunities in life such as becoming a singer or a dancer. It helps me think about these professions because to successfully become a dancer, you need to have a lot of courage and confidence performing in a whole crowd of people. This poem also helps me think about the feeling of staying positive throughout every bad situation that can happen. The device successfully conveys the message of the poem, which is no matter what anyone does to you that makes you feel upset, you are able to change those thoughts by having confidence in yourself and never giving up on your dreams.
