I interviewed Rachel Doucet who happens to works at Dunkin Donuts and I will do a critical analysis on the metaphors that she mentioned about Dunkin Donuts as an organization. In 1865 slavery in the United States of America ended, and since then the Black Community has been told to: get over it, move on, and, “leave the past in the past.” Since 1865 this country has taken steps toward making “improvements”; in the year 2008 we elected our first President with brown skin! Is that progress or what? Has the United States of America, the land of the free, home of the brave, and the place where all were created equal, left its race issues in the past? As much as we would like to keep our rose colored glasses on--the land of the free has not changed as much as one would hope since 1865.…

When antiquated ideas about gender roles are imposed without thinking, nobody wins. The episode “Women’s Appreciation” is a perfect example about how outdated gender roles not only hurt women, but also men in the form of Michael Scott. However, women usually are the prime victims of casual misogyny. I will be analyzing the form of sexism that is demonstrated by Michael Scott, the examples of women characters both enforcing and breaking gender stereotypes, and how these cause Michael to become a victim of obsolete gender roles. Michael Scott is an eccentric man who believes himself to be a fair and non-discriminatory boss who strives to be respected by his workers.…

“The Bachelor” Recap: Analysis ABC, a popular television station known for news and for its hit tv shows, recently published an article on their blog, giving the world a full recap of the reality TV show, “The Bachelor”. However, the author’s purpose in writing this article was not intended to be giving a recap of the show, but to spark interest in their audience and encourage said audience to start watching the series and the station as a whole. The article’s use of rhetorical elements such as the recap from the station itself, the intended audience, its author’s views, the video and links embedded within the article itself, and the dramatic reality of ABC’s hit TV show, “The Bachelor,” support the overall purpose and goal to promote the show…

The Real, the Bad, and the Ugly by Cassie Heidecker is an interesting example of analyzing the reality TV epidemic and in addition to the people that view it. The author starts out by listing things that go into a reality TV production and things that happen in real life in order to state that these are two different things despite the idea that reality TV is supposed to be “real”. The mundanity of real life is emphasised here vs. the idea that reality TV is scripted and has a lot of extra work put into it to make reality TV more appealing to a broader audience. The author goes on to say that real life is boring which I thought was funny and a little ironic considering that later the author mentions that she is somebody who sets aside time…

The first test I took was the race IAT; I hypothesized quickly what my result for this test would be. My data suggests a moderate automatic preference for European American compared to African American. I am not surprised at this result. I am aware that I am not consciously racist, nor do I ever intend to show explicit prejudices towards any other human being; however, I am somewhat aware these racial implicit biases. While reading Buried Prejudice I related strongly to when Carpenter was explaining that the problem with implicit bias is when people form associations that contradict their personal intentions and beliefs.…
