Exploration of the Cultural Background of another Student in Class
Marlin Jones was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 15th 1971. Omaha is the largest city in Nebraska with a population of over 434,000 people. He identifies as an African American and his primary language is English. He is the oldest of four children that range in age from forty three to thirty seven years old. Marlin was raised by his mother and his father died in 2009 at the age of 54. His grandfather served as his father figure until he passed. He had his first child at the age of 17 and then joined the Army in 1988. During those years he met his wonderful wife and they had three other children that range in age from 21 to eight years old. Marlin’s great, great grandmother was a Filipino woman who married an Irish man then immigrated to Florida and had his great grandmother. If you traveled to the east end of the island you would find a population of rich Caucasians, east to west of the island are all black people and the poor black people would live in the housing projects similar to those in New York. In elementary school through high school there were two Caucasians in my school. If any Caucasians attended public schools they would stand out and would not last very long. Most Caucasian kids would attend private school while most blacks attended public school. I had a choice of what school I wanted to attend. Although, I attended public school, my brother attended private
