Affirming Strengths Essay
On strengthsquest.com, I completed the StrengthsQuest assessment and discovered my five themes: Restorative, Input, Developer, Futuristic and Empathy. At first, I was unsure if the results of the assessment would encompass me, but I do feel that I embody a large portion of my themes.
In “My Signature Themes”, a downlodable PDF description of my themes, Restorative describes a problem solver- someone who enjoys fixing or reviving things. Initially, I did not see myself as Restorative because I associated being a problem solver with Mathematics and Science. However, in my 3D and 2D art class I am continually finding solutions to aesthetic problems. For example, I had to make a sculpture using paper bags, masking tape, and twine. Nevertheless, these materials had to be utilized in a way that was transformative. The materials could not be identifiable. During this project, I constantly made and edited sketches because sometimes the materials were recognizable; thus, they needed to be reworked. Each time I found a solution to hindrance, the sculpture morphed into a new and more improved form. The progress I made kept me motivated and I was satisfied with the …show more content…
Empathy opens many possibilities for people to grow and remain open-minded. For example, when I read literature, the story becomes personal and I am able to connect with it. Sometimes, I even empathize with the antagonist because I can understand their reasoning. This understanding of motives helps me write analytical papers in my American Literature class. In addition, I am able to avoid misconstruing information because I am able to see how it could be misinterpreted. This quality not only enables me to understand and execute assignments, but it also allows me to befriend and accept others from a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and
