In the middle of the story when Ray and Hal are standing in the middle of the empty field they seem to have a bit of a moment when staring at each other. When Hal realized this he then laughs and changes the subject by asking questions on how ray should help him with his situation on whether he should marry the woman he got pregnant. It is an important part of the story because in the passage it shows an example of how Ray is gay. This theory shows many examples of Ray and Hal having a special moment together. In the passage, it says, “they made a picture.” This can be assumed by them being a family picture since they’re staring at each other. The passage also says, “they had become all alive to each other.” This quote shows how they both are
