Should Euthanasia Occur Essay

Euthanasia is the act of killing a sick or injured person to end their suffering as stated by Merriam Webster Dictionary. The government is against euthanasia because they state that it is inhumane and that only God can take life away, but the reality of the case is that it is a right that the people have and not everybody has the same belief. With the legalization of euthanasia people can end their suffering and the economy can progress in the way that the government doesn’t have to pay for life support and therapies. Once someone makes the decision if euthanasia should occur there are two types to consider. One is voluntary euthanasia were the patient wants to die and non-voluntary were as the person is unconscious or unable to make a decision to live or die. For instance, a girl is in a comma and the mother has to make the decision to whether end her suffering and pull the life support or let her live until one day she snaps out of her coma. To illustrate voluntary type, a cancer person has made the decision to die and stop his or her suffering. Moreover, other types of euthanasia to consider are active or passive. When the person who dies is killed directly by a person it is consider active euthanasia, while passive euthanasia is taking away the patient’s life by withholding treatment or medicine that is necessary for their survival. Most cases involving euthanasia are voluntary that being the case, the government is denying a person’s human rights by not letting them make a mayor decision in deciding to whether live or die. Furthermore, there are two other ways of committing; euthanasia, indirectly where a person takes a treatment that speeds up the patient’s death, which is a method many patients are using these days, and an assisted suicide where a person helps someone die because they are unable to do it themselves. This topic generates a lot of debating between religion and legislation and also it divides the public opinion.
