1.The Jamestown Fiasco- In 1607 Englishmen arrived to the new world to mark the first permanent settlement Jamestown Virginia. They wanted to prevent Spanish advancements in the New World. They settled in Jamestown because it was far inland to hide from Spain, deep water to anchor ships and protection from local Native Americans. Christopher Newport brought settlers to plant crops, he built a fort to protect their settlement. John Smith ruler of Jamestown was very successful on his rule that anyone that did not work did not eat. He maintained settlers working and maintained peace with the Indians trading for corn. Columbus was viewed as the "Admiral of the Ocean Sea" because he discovered that there was another world besides the one he lived in. It was a great time in history but for the Native Americans it was the beginning to an end. European and Indian confrontation were not simple although each colony treated Native American differently they were all put into tribes. Europeans viewed Native Americans as savages and Native American viewed European as civilized persons based on how they lived. The Indians were amazed by the Europeans weaponry and cloth which led them to invite them into their villages. The native Americans showed the Europeans many safe places basically gave them a tour of their village and help them collect food, water and create shelter. Soon language became one of the problems between both of them most of the communication between them was sign language. Indians were not able to form a successful coalition against the Europeans because Europeans were way more advanced with technology. He published an Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World his pamphlet mainly focused on the issues of racism in American, equal rights for African Americans and the effects of slavery. He brought the abuses and inequalities of slavery to light in this pamphlet. He also showed how individual should act to promote racial inequality according to religious and political tenets. He urged every black person in the world to read his pamphlet and to those who did not know how to read to get someone to read it for them. The southern states reacted in a very aggressive way against walkers pamphlet they arrested blacks in New Orleans for distributing the pamphlet. However walkers pamphlet was very wide speared in newspapers and the south began to retaliate against the pamphlet. Georgia offered $10,000 to anyone who would turn Walker alive and $1,000 to the one who killed him. The Appeal pushed "the abolitionist movement" both black and whites who were against slavery.
