1.According to the Documentary ( (Atlas & Newsom, 2011)) Consumption of media has increased considerably amongst Americans and can be linked to growing rates of lowered self-esteem and a rasise in mental disorders. "American teenagers spend more than 10 hours a day consuming media, most of it filled with content that objectifies women and distorts their bodies and 53% of 12 year old girls feel unhappy with their bodies, 78% of 17 year old girls feel unhappy with their bodies and 65% of women and girls have an eating disorder".

In the words of guest speaker Katic Couric (2011) their is a growing sense of anxiety and worry amongst American women in particularly mothers. She states "I worry about how much pressure my daughters feel. In a society that features anorexic actresses and models and television stars, we get conditioned to think this is what women should look like.”
4. Objectification of women is prevalent amongst many Media sources and Women and girls exposed to said depictions are heavily influenced by said depictions and in the words of the Newsom (2011) this effect is quite profound and Stunting " Girls are learning to see themselves as objects. American Psychological Association calls self-objectification a national epidemic: Women and girls who self-objectify are more likely to be depressed, have lower confidence, lower ambition and lower GPAs." (Atlas & Newsom, 2011).
5. The heighten emphasis on appearances has sent the message to many women that they are inheritly flawed and must correct their perceived inadequacies' . "Women respond to advertisers’ messages of never being good enough: American women spend more money on the pursuit of beauty than on their own education" (Atlas & Newsom,
