American Revolution occurred between 1775-1783. It is also known as the American revolutionary war or the war of independence. The conflict began between residents of Great Britain’s 13 North American colonies and the colonial government, that represented the British crown as the British wanted to gain control over the larger colonial groups in the United States. The conflict was a civil war within the British Empire until early 1778. The battle of Saratoga at northern New York was the turning point. Though the Americans had lost the capital Philadelphia, it did not bring many advantages to the British.
