American Republic Versus Global Empire
This chapter highlights the main differences between American republic ideals and global empire which only aims to be imperialist and based on mercantilism system. It starts with deep conversation between Paul and john who acknowledges john that his work is hurting a lot of people and that the Colombians do not want them there. They also discussed about a recent guerrilla attack on a Main project site. She mentioned this to john that working class people in Columbia ostracized the dam that was being built because they didn't want the land in the valley it was being constructed in to be flooded. Paula helped him turn away from all of this. Being in Columbia showed him the difference between the old American republic that was all about hope for the world and the new global empire, which was greedy and based on deepening the pockets of a few leaders.
