Croatian Americans are individuals who live in the United States, but are of Croatian decent. Their ancestors came from a country that now neighbors Slovenia, Hungary, and Bosnia. Most Croatians located themselves along the coast of the Adriatic Sea and were skillful seafarers. The Independent Republic of Dubrovnik would sea fare with other established places around the world. Upon the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Empire Monarchy is 1867, there were individuals who took sides with Hungary, Austria, and the liberated political administration of Starčevič and Kvaternik (History of Croatians in America). Like the “Germans” came from all over Europe (Robbins), Croatians also came from many different parts of Europe, but generally one region. They were commonly grouped together with the Slovenians. Because they came from different areas, there are multiple different dialects for the Croatian language. It is not uncommon for them to have a troublesome time understanding each other when in Europe, or upon their arrival in America
