“American History: Our Hope for the Future”
This is dedicated to all those men and women whose uniforms have been stained in the service of this great nation. I reflect the sentiment of Iraq veteran Gordon Ewell: “ I am an American and I am free today because someone fought, bled, or died in my place. I vow that as long as there is breath in my body, their sacrifice will not be in vain. ” Indeed, it is in light of their sacrifice that our sense of history springs, and in view of their bravery and patriotic devotion that our vision of hope for America’s future takes shape.

In the midst of a maelstrom of conflicting ideals and opinions, we must hold fast to what we know to be true. Unless we remain faithful to the strong Christian values for which our predecessors were willing to give up so much, all their blood, sweat, and tears will have been spilled for us in vain.
Therefore, as you go home today, you have a choice before you, a choice of great importance. Will you remain faithful to the Christian values embedded in our nation’s very existence? Will you actively uphold the precepts that form the framework of our
Constitution? As for me, I feel that were I to ignore these principles, it would be both a dishonor to the Founding Fathers and a disservice to my generation and its posterity. I pray that we will recover from our loss of biblical values, for with God’s help, this nation can turn away from the immoral practices it now so warmly embraces and become once more a beacon of godliness and faith. I stand in awe of its beginnings, in remembrance of its history, and in respect for its leaders. But most of all, I have hope for America’s future as an indivisible nation—a nation truly united under
