American Education Vs German Education System

Every day the same propaganda is spewed out from the Government and schools, that “academic success” is the key to being successful in life. I want you to ask yourself if you truly believe that everything that you are doing to conform to this cookie cutter program, will give you want you later in life, not some preconceived idea of success that is defined by some larger organization with no investment into you as a person. German school systems have began to realize and take action upon a fundamental design flaw in the way we prepare our children for the future.
To comprehend why we need to adjust our education system’s philosophies to be more aligned with German ones, we have to first have a basic understanding the German education system.

West , and Ludger Woessmann From Harvard, in 2012, German 15-year-old students outperformed their U.S. peers by 27 points in science, 32 points in math and 10 points in reading. Further, Germany has a much higher percentage of high performing students in math than the U.S. does, with 17 percent of German students perform at or above the advanced level, while only 8 percent of U.S. students do. So this goes to show how even if the goal of our education system was the create students who would do well on a standardized test and trying to accomplish this by having a standardized education system and class format. These test scores obviously show that on a pure standardized test basis the german system is better, the most likely cause for this disparity between the two nations academic success would be that the American system subdues and chokes out the children's natural curiosity and drive to work hard and learn with passion. The American system does this by forcing and shoving kids into system that isn't suited for everyone. I like to describe our Education system to be much like a strip mine, when you strip mine you are diving into an area looking for the nice shiny things that are obviously valuable such as gold or silver, but during this process you disregard the rest of the land that could have other valuables such as iron or nickel which are immensely useful and necessary but require more work to get a benefit out of them in comparison to the quick profit you can get from gold. This is very similar to our education system in the sense that we have a group or people and we put them through a series of tests and exams(Much like the one i'm presenting right now) to
