American Ascribed Status

First and foremost, to discuss about from the book and the materials in sociologic class. Social status is the position occupied by individual and a part of basic framework of social life. Ascribed status is involuntary and often inherited at birth or received involuntary later in live. Achieved status is voluntary, earned or become, and can be positive or negative. Master status is cutting across or dominates status of others. Status inconsistency is when two statuses do not go together. What is more, roles are behaviors and expectations associated with one’s status. Role conflict happens when the expectations associated with two statuses are in conflict with each other. Role strain happens conflict one feels within a single role.

of 187, and received Ph.D and some higher degree in his life. He is a child prodigy, nonetheless, he is sunny man in the family, and he is also the cleverest. (Master status) He is most clever when he is doing experiments, (Achieved status) and the audiences think that is the funniest scene in the show. He always provides the scene that is humorous. (Ascribed status) The reason of his humorous, people do not really like to have a conversation with him, because his face always looks like a decent but saying something silliness. He always follows the conventions strictly and does not think about in any relationship of love. The woman who is called Ramona Nowitzki, a graduate student who become Sheldon’s groupie, and loves Sheldon from her first impression. Afterwards, she only allows Sheldon to help her do some homework. When they have science project, she will ask Sheldon to do research with her, and she helps Sheldon to fix his toenails. Ramona wants to get close to Sheldon, so she creates activities for them to do. However Ramona does not succeed in getting Sheldon’s affection. Ramona is the worst of outcomes. Sheldon really does not want to have a relationship with her, whether she had made everything good or not, Sheldon strongly rejects her. (Role strains) Once Sheldon makes her leave the house. (Role conflicts) He thinks this behavior is good for their relationship, but it hurts Ramona’s heart deeply. This behavior is rude to others, although he is kind of hurried and nervous, but this behavior is impolite to others. This behavior reflects that he breaks the social norm which is that people should talk politely and sincerely to others. Also he should not be joking especially when Ramona is asking for help, but he will help the others except Ramona.
