There are lots of modern values found in Macbeth. Macbeth is a tale of ambition written by Shakespeare. Shakespeare used the tale of Macbeth to convey the dangers of being too ambitious. Macbeth would’ve been considered a villain in the olden days, but in today's society, he is viewed no more than a person that wanted to be more than just a thane. Macbeth teaches an important lesson to exercise restraints when it comes to desires and be aware of the consequences that come with the desires. How guilt in Macbeth relates in society is if you go against what is good, it will destroy your mind. There are many signs of guilt in Macbeth one of the first being the dagger Macbeth saw when company was over for a feast “Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible To feeling as to sight? Or art thou but A dagger of the mind, a false creation, Proceeding from the heat-oppressèd brain?” (Shakespeare, 2.1. 37-40). When Macbeth killed Banquo, his mind played tricks on him again and Macbeth saw the ghost of Banquo “Thou canst not say I did it. Never shake Thy gory locks at me.“ (Shakespeare, trans 1979, 3.4 55-56). Later, Lady Macbeth starts feeling the guilt of her husband and starts sleepwalking “Wash your hands. Put on your nightgown. Look not so pale.—I tell you yet again, Banquo’s buried; he cannot come out on’s grave.” (Shakespeare , trans 1979, 5.1. 43-45). Near the end of the play, Macduff leaves his wife and children to join up with Malcolm to fight Macbeth. Assassins sent by Macbeth then go to Macduff’s house to assassinate him, but it turns out Macduff wasn’t there so his family were all brutally murdered.
