Brazil is located in South America and is the continent’s largest country, covering roughly 47% of the continent. It is home to the Amazon Rainforest and Brazilian Highlands, is popular for tourism, and is the fifth largest economy in the world. The capital of Brazil is Brasilia and major cities include ão Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo. São Paulo is the country’s largest and most populated city.

The Amazon takes up so much of the North, it is the least populated region of the country. The rainforest dates back about 55 million years, forming “during the Eocene era, following the evolution of angiosperm plants.” (Reference Library: Amazon_Rainforest, 2015) In recent years, the Amazon has suffered greatly from droughts and is close to reaching a point where damage cannot be reversed in which the rainforest would begin to die. Brazils GDP has grown a lot and it is currently about 2.4 Trillion, and it is continuing to grow. The United States is currently the largest trading partner with Brazil. One of the biggest exports from Brazil is gold. Brazil ranked in as the 20th largest producer of gold worldwide. Some other notable exports from Brazil would be sugar, meat, textiles, and air crafts. Brazil has one of leading dairy industry in the world. Despite that, one of the imports that are on the rise is dairy. Brazil currently has 236 millions of liters imported each quarter. Other big imports are oil, electronics, and chemicals. In figure 34, you will see how individual consumers spend their money, with food and other items being the most purchased items, and education and cell phones having the least amount of money spent. In Brazil the biggest shopping days are Christmas day, Mother’s day, Father’s day, Children’s day, and Dia dos Nomorados (equivalent to valentine’s day).
